Using the Piano Keyboard Tool in the Classroom
The piano keyboard tool is an interactive on-screen keyboard available during your Tissimo lessons. Use it to demonstrate notes and highlight specific keys for your student in real time — all without needing a physical keyboard connected.
Opening the Piano Tool
- Hover over the instrument button on the left side of the classroom to reveal the instrument options.
- Click the piano icon to open the interactive keyboard.
- The keyboard appears on screen, ready to use.
Selecting Keys
Click any key on the on-screen keyboard to highlight it, and click it again to deselect it. Your selections appear in your color and your student's selections appear in theirs, so it is always clear who marked which note. Use the Clear button to remove all selections at once.
Highlighting Keys for Your Student
One of the most useful features is the ability to highlight specific keys. This lets you visually show your student which notes to play.
- Highlight individual keys to point out a note or fingering.
- Highlight a group of keys to illustrate a chord or scale.
- Highlighted keys are visible to your student in real time.
- As a teacher, you can use the toggle on your student's picture to control whether they can select keys too.
Navigating the Keyboard and Note Names
The main keyboard is full-size and scrolls horizontally. A mini keyboard at the top acts as a navigator:
- Mini keyboard — click a section of it to jump the main keyboard to that range.
- Synced navigation — when one of you scrolls or jumps to a different section, the other's view follows automatically.
You can also choose how note names are shown on the keys using the small menu in the top-left corner: hidden, flats, or sharps.
Teaching Tips
- Use highlighting to walk through a scale pattern step by step.
- Combine the piano with the metronome for rhythmic exercises.
- The piano and the guitar chord tool share the same window — use the instrument button to switch between them at any time.
