Pre-Lesson Setup and Device Check

A few minutes before each lesson, run through this quick checklist to make sure your audio, video, and connection are ready. Good preparation reduces the chance of technical issues during the lesson.

Device and Browser

• Use a modern browser — Chrome or Firefox recommended.
• Keep your browser and operating system up to date.
• Close unnecessary apps and browser tabs to free up resources.
• Make sure your device is charged or plugged in.

Camera

• Check that your camera is plugged in and not in use by another app.
• Allow Tissimo to access your camera when prompted by the browser.
• Position the camera so your face and hands are clearly visible to your teacher.
• Good lighting from in front works best — avoid sitting with a bright window behind you.

Audio

• Use a headset or earbuds with a built-in microphone when possible — this reduces echo significantly.
• Check that your microphone is not muted at the system level.
• Allow Tissimo to access your microphone when prompted.
• Test your audio in the pre-classroom area before the lesson starts.

Internet Connection

• A wired ethernet connection is more stable than Wi-Fi for video calls.
• If using Wi-Fi, stay close to your router.
• Ask others on the same network to avoid heavy downloading during your lesson.

Your Instrument and Space

• Have your instrument ready and tuned before the lesson starts.
• Minimise background noise by closing doors and windows.
• Keep your sheet music or lesson notes nearby.

In the Pre-Classroom Waiting Area

When you click Join, you will first arrive in a pre-classroom waiting area where you can test your camera and microphone. Use this to confirm everything is working, then click Enter classroom when you are ready. If you spot any issues, see Adjusting Classroom Audio and Camera Settings for help.
